When Will My $90 Payment Arrive? Direct Deposit vs. Paper Check
Direct deposits started October 8, 2026; paper checks go out late October. Here is the full timeline for the $90 Medicare rebate.
When will the $90 show up? It depends on how you get your benefits. Direct deposit started first. Paper checks take longer. Here is the timeline.
Direct Deposit: Started October 8, 2026
If your Social Security benefits arrive by direct deposit, the $90 rebate uses the same bank account. Direct deposits started on October 8, 2026. Most people should see the money in their account within a few days of that date, depending on their bank.
The deposit is labeled along the lines of "Medicare Improvement Fund Payment; $90 Payment to Offset October Premium." The name may look slightly different on your bank statement, but it should reference the Medicare Improvement Fund.
Paper Checks: Late October
If you get your benefits by paper check, your $90 check is mailed separately. Paper checks go out late in October 2026. Mail takes time, so do not worry if a neighbor with direct deposit got theirs first. If late October passes and nothing arrives, check your my Social Security account at ssa.gov or call SSA at 1-800-772-1213.
What If the Amount Looks Wrong?
The payment is a flat $90. It is the same for everyone who qualifies. It is not based on your income, your benefit amount, or your state. If someone tells you that you are owed a different amount and asks for a "fee" to release it, that is a scam. Real information is in scams targeting seniors over the $90 payment.
Will I Get Another One Next Month?
No. This is a one-time payment to offset the October Part B premium. It will not repeat. Your regular monthly benefit does not change. This is not the COLA — the 2026 Social Security COLA is 2.8% and is separate, as explained in what the $90 payment is not.
How to Track Your Payment
The best way to track it is through your my Social Security account at ssa.gov. You can see your payment history there. Or call SSA at 1-800-772-1213. Do not rely on a text message or email telling you the money is "on its way" — those are easy to fake. Our guide how to confirm the payment is real walks you through checking safely.
